Lien Chan expects KMT, CPC to carry out more exchanges

  HANGZHOU, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Kuomintang (KMT)Honorary Chairman Lien Chan voiced hopes Friday that KMT and the Communist Party of China (CPC) can carry out more exchanges, especially in grass-roots level.

  He made the remarks while meeting with Xi Jinping, secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, on Friday night.

  KMT has sent a dozen or so delegations to the Chinese mainland since August last year to conduct exchanges with mainland cities and regions, Lien said.

  It is the fourth visit of Lien to the Chinese mainland since last year. During the visits, he has been to 10 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

  On the forum on cross-Strait agricultural cooperation to be held in south China's Hainan Province from Oct. 17 to 18, Lien said the two sides have highly complementay in agriculture.

  Xi said Zhejiang has been attracting more and more Taiwan business people over the years. Zhejiang and Taiwan are having closer cooperation.

  Statistics show that Zhejiang has about 6,000 Taiwan businesses with a combined investment of 26 billion U.S. dollars, and the number of Taiwan visitors to the province has reached 600,000 so far this year. Enditem
