Trade volume between Chinese mainland and Taiwan slides in first seven months

  BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Trade volume between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan dropped 35.1 percent year on year during the first seven months of 2009, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

  Trade volume stood at 52.53 billion U.S. dollars during the January to July period, according to statistics of the MOC's Department of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs.

  In the first seven months, the Chinese mainland approved 1,335 projects funded by businessmen from Taiwan, representing a decrease of 3.3 percent year on year.

  The mainland received 1 billion U.S. dollars of direct investment from Taiwan in the first seven months, down 14.9 percent year on year.
